I found this shirt for $3 bucks at a local store and given my love for Beauty and Beast, I bought without a second thought, I knew I could turn it into a peplum top like I had done previously but then I realized that if I cut for a peplum I would have to cut into the writing of the shirt. Granted, Gaston was not a likeable guy, but this quote is everything! After realizing that I would have to cut out the writing to get a peplum top, The cut shirt pieces were left abandoned for the better part of the year.
Compré esta camisa en una tienda por $3 USD, además de que estaba a un precio tan módico era de La Bella y la Bestia, una de mis peliculas de Disney favoritas. Cuándo empezé a cortarla me percaté que para convertirla en un peplum tendría que cortar parte de la frase, y aunque Gaston no es un personaje amable, esta frase lo es todo! Luego de percatarme de esto, la camisa estuvo escondida dentro del closet por un año.
Then, this year Caroline from https://www.mindandmusecrafts.com/ said she was hosting an inharmony MAL, a Make-along for projects involving more than one craft. And BAM, I knew what I could do with these shirt scraps, add CROCHET!
Hasta, que este año, Caroline del mindandmusecrafts blog y podcast, anunció que estaría patrocinando el in harmony MAL, un MAL para proyectos completados utilizando más de una manualidad y BAM surgió la idea para completar esta camisa.
Like, I said I had already cut out the t-shirt shape from another one that I really liked the fit of. Use the video to guide your cutting, I left the shoulder seams and the neckline attached and cut 1/4″ bigger for the seam allowance. The armhole should still be pretty obvious, and this is where you start sewing.
El Primer paso ya lo había completado hace un año, cortar la camisa para mi tamaño. Esto lo hice siguiendo las directrices en el video que les mencioné anteriormente. No corté los hombros ni el cuello, solo la forma de los brazos y los lados dejando espacio de 1/4″ para la costura. Se empieza a coser desde los brazos.
After sewing up the garment I picked up stitches on the sleeve opening using a 1.75mm steel crochet hook and Drops SAfran in the color red (classified as a fingering weight/sportweight). I picked 32 stitches, using single crochet, on wither side of the armhole. for a total of 64 stitches. To avoid inserting my hook savagely through the shoulder seam I decided to ch 5 and carry this ch 5 on as a design element on the sleeve. Only the starting row used a 1.75mm hook for the rest I used a 2.25mm hook.
Luego de haber cosido la camisa, empezé a tejer las mangas. Utilizando un ganchillo de 1.75mm y hilo de algodón fingering (Drops Safran), tejí 32 puntos bajos a ambos lados de la manga, interrumpidos por una cadeneta de 5 para no hacer un boquete en la costura de los hombros. Solamente en la vuelta de inicio utilizé el ganchillo de 1.75mm el resto de la manga fue tejido con un ganchillo de 2.25mm.
As shown here from Rounds 2 – 14 I used hdc. I tried to pick up stitched about 1/2″ in from the cut round so I wouldn’t run the risk of breaking my fabric and rendering it useless, Trust me, only the first round is fiddly!
Las vueltas 2 – 14 las tejí utilizando el punto medio alto. Para la primera vuelta intenté tejer 1/2″ de la esquina, así evitando romper la tela más de lo necesario. Esta fue la única parta laboriosa!
But how to finish he t-shirt? I wanted tome decorative edging, but the though of actually making all those sc using a 1.75mm hook was daunting. Luckily I am part of a very crafty community and a fellow crafter (who also happens to be my mom) suggested the pom pom border. Life changing I tell you! I crocheted the pom pom border separately and then hand sewed it onto the shirt.
La duda era ¿cómo completar la camisa? Quería un borde decorativo pero no quería tejer un sin-numero de puntos bajos con el ganchillo de 1.75mm. Por suerto soy parte de está comunidad tejeril y una de estas personas (que también es mi madre) me sugirió el borde de pom pom. Esta oración cambió mi vida. Tejí el borde de pom pom por separado y luego lo cosí a la camisa.
I used Bella Coco’s tutorial for the crochet pom pom border to guide my stitching, unlike her, I was not working into a granny square blanket so I started with a foundation hdc that would fit the circumference of the shirt. On the next row I started the actual pom pom border.
Utilizé un tutorial de bella coco para tejer el borde de pom pom, per al contrario de ella, yo no estaba tejiendo este borde a una sábana de cuadrados granny así que comencé con una fila de puntos medios altos sin cadenetas. Hice está fila lo suficientemente larga para la circumferencia de la camisa y luego en lo que viene siendo la segunda fila completé las instrucciones para el borde de pom pom.
Things I would change from the project.
- talk to the Clarisa from 1 year ago and tell her to cut the shirt at least 1″ larger than necessary on the sides. Why? Well people gain weight Clarisa!
- I’m still unsure about the sleeves, Don’t know if to decrease or add more rows.
¿Qué cosas cambiaría del proyecto?
- Hablar con la Clarisa del pasado y decirle que cortara la camisa 1″ más grande a los lado. ¿Porqué? Porque las personas cambian de peso!
- Las mangas todavía no me convences y no sé si añadirle más vueltas y hacer disminuciones, tal vez ambas?
