Hello Everybody! About a week ago I announced the start of the Mischief Managed Mal and I can’t even find words to describe how happy I am that so many of you decided to jump on board the Harry Potter Bandwagon with me! I really am super excited about his MAL, it is still amazing to me how my approach to Harry Potter has changed throughout the years. When I first ventured down the road of Harry Potter the 4th book had just been released and I devoured it. Magic, dragons, witches, wizards, Bulgarians, I fell for it hook line and sinker! In my eyes, Harry Potter could do no wrong and Dumbledore was a kind, caring grandfatherly figure.
Now? Dumbledore is possibly the meanest character in the book, he was manipulative, left Harry Potter with abusive relatives, didn’t tell the Potters about the prophecy in a timely manner, took them out of the protection of Potter Manor Wards, let Sirius Black go to jail because either a) he was prejudiced against the blacks or b) it made it easier to send Harry to live with Petunia.*Inhale, Exhale*
You may be wondering, what does all this rant have to do with a crochet pattern? Well, one of my favorite scenes in the first film is the Halloween (Samhain) feast. I just loved the food, the colors, the decorations, the carved pumpkins it all spoke to my soul. I really wanted to design something that would reflect this idea.
Now, it may surprise many of you that I chose to design a shawl instead of a garment. While a garment would certainly be comforting, the idea of burying myself in a shawl in front of a fire seemed very appealing. I wanted this shawl to really represent fall, what better color than burnt orange? Thus, Hagrid’s Pumpkin Patch was born.

Hagrid’s Pumpkin Patch Shawl is a simple two-row repeat in extended single crochet, my favorite stitch at the moment, and completed with what I am calling an Open Arcade Stitch and Emma from PotterandBloom calls a Fancy Arcade Stitch. So lacy and fancy, right? I made the shawl using Carron Simply Soft and Lion Brand Tweed stripes in the color Wildfire. Perfect fall colors in easy care yarns. You could, of course, substitute the yarn and hook sizes to suit your needs, just keep in mind that the quantity of yarn needed will change.

Blocking:
I washed and put it in the drier, but I do feel it would have gone better if I would have steam blocked it.
There you have it! A simple and colorful shawl that you can make for yourself or give as a gift. Make as a decoration…. Take your pick. Of course, you do not have to make it in orange, I just really wanted to. 😀

Don’t forget the #mischiefmanagedcal if you make it! Hugs!
XOXOXO

Loving the shawl. The mauve color is fantastic what yarn is that?
I’m a bit confused. The shawl is made with caron simply soft in Pumpkin and Lionbrand tweed in wildfire, I have not made a mauve version of this shawl.
