The sunrise crochet stitch is a lace crochet stitch that reminds me of the rising sun.
It’s been a while since I have shared a stitch tutorial with you, well a written one at any rate.
As seems to be the case with me, this stitch is from the Vogue Dictionary of Crochet stitches, which you can find online at the Internet Archive. The only downside to this book is the lack of names for the stitches.
However, it’s one of my favorite crochet dictionaries and I’m excited to share it with you.
This crochet stitch is an openwork stitch. Through the strategic use of chains and stitches we create open spaces that add visual appeal to any project.
Without further ado let’s learn the Sunrise crochet stitch.

Notes
- ch3 counts as a stitch
- I’m using worsted weight acrylic and a 5mm hook

Stitches and Abbreviations
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- sk – skip
If you start with a chain, you will need multiples of 8+2, 3 turning chain.
If, however, you start with foundation stitches you will only need multiple of 8+2.
Row(1): dc, for this sample I’ve used 18 dc, ch3 and turn.
2. Dc in next st, * ch3, sk2, sc, ch3, sc in next st, ch3, sk2, dc in next 2 sts; repeat from * to end of row, ch3 and turn.
3. Dc, ch1, 4dc in ch3 space between sc, ch1, dc; repeat from * to end of row, ch3 and turn.
4. Dc, *ch2, sk ch and 1dc, dc in next 2 sts, ch2, sk ch space, dc in next 2 sts; repeat from * to end of row, ch3 and turn.
Repeat rows 1 – 4 however many times you like for your pattern.
