Dress for comfort and style when you crochet the lazy polka dot top pattern.

Inspiration & Design
I can’t do it, I can’t leave well enough alone. I’m always wondering, what if, what if I add this stitch here? Or what it I work this in a different yarn. You get the idea, I’m always curious. Which of course means that 3 years ago (yikes, let’s not count years scoob, I mean I just realized it’s been 17 years since my first concert and ouch!)
Tangent aside, when I completed the vintage echo cardigan, I was so in love with the stitches and construction that I immediately knew I wanted a different version of it. Including one without buttons. Then I thought, “if I’m taking out the buttons, why not make is sleeveless as well?” So, the vintage echo cardigan turned into the summer friendly lazy polka dot top.
The Yarn

The lazy polka dot top isn’t summer friendly just because of the sleeves or lack thereof, it’s also because of the yarn. The top is crocheted with Yonkey Monkey a fingering weight cotton bamboo yarn. Not only does this yarn have a beautiful sheen but each 50g ball contains 231 yds.
The bamboo in the blend gives this yarn a beautiful drape that makes it a wonderful choice for summer friendly garments. Also, depending on your size, you may be able to crochet 2 garments with this 10 pack.
If this yarn is not to your liking, testers were also successful crocheting the lazy polka dot top with
- Hobbystore cotton dk (984 yds used for size 3)
- Lionbrand Summer nights treasure Island.
- Fiddlesticks Cedar
- KC Premium Yarn Merino SW blend
Can I make the lazy polka dot top?
I believe so! The top is crocheted in panels then seamed to form our garment fabric. The trickiest part of this pattern is the short row shaping. However you can find a video tutorial for this skill in my Youtube channel.
To make the lazy polka dot top you also need to be comfortable with picking up stitches and seaming.
Full Description of Pattern
The lazy polka dot top is the perfect warm weather garment. It’s designed with positive ease and a light weight yarn to keep you cool while you enjoy a summer picnic in your backyard. Not only will the different stitches keep you entertained but the panel construction gives you plenty of opportunities to customize.
You can color block, make it more cropped, or play around with drape. Photos from the_crocheters_casa, abby_johnson, and yarn.with.craft

Gauge
We have two gauges for this top. Please make your gauge at least 6 x 6 and measure your stitches over 4” for a more accurate swatch. Stitch and row count were measured after steaming but there wasn’t a significant change from pre-steaming

We work both swatches in rows and with a 3.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge or size needed to obtain gauge.
