Inspiration & Design
Every Year, well since 2017. Let’s start again, shall we.
Since 2017 I’ve been writing Granny Square day on my Calendar, and often miss it. This year, I wasn’t letting it happen! I was determined to crochet at least one square. But which of the many gorgeous ones to go for? Which led to why not create a fall themed table runner from Granny Squares.
While there are many a gorgeous pumpkin grannies, I wanted a pumpkin granny square that wasn’t completely round in the middle and used the granny stitch.
To create the middle I drew out s simple pumpkin shape and crocheted to fill it in. I’m so happy with this pumpkin granny square that I’m rushing to share it with you.
The Yarn
To create our pumpkin granny square I recommend 3 colors, one for the pumpkin, one for the stem and one for the Main rounds of the granny square. The squares are crocheted using cotton yarn. For the sample I used a variety of scraps.
- Orange – Dishie from Wecrochet * aff link
- Brown cotton I don’t actually know from where
- And A discontinued Cotton Acrylic Blend from Premier Yarn, the same one I crocheted the first iteration of The flower Duster
But really any Worsted Weight cotton yarn that can use a 5mm hook will work just fine.

Can I make this Pumpkin Granny Square?
Yes you can! Not only do we have the written instructions here but there is also a complete video tutorial available. In order to crochet this granny square you need to know or be willing to learn.
