The small christmas tree granny square is the simplest holiday make. Use 2 colors to create an evergreen grid.

Inspiration & Design
I absolutely love the versatility of granny squares and ever since I crocheted the pumpkin granny square, I’ve been imbued with the desire for more! Why not a granny square for all seasons? I know I’m not the only one to think so, just look at Raffamusa designs and all her lovely granny squares. Don’t even get me started on some truly elaborate squares that just make you sigh with their beauty. The point being that holidays always bring granny squares to my min. Whether it’s their versatility or even their simplicity I truly think there is a granny square for every occasion.
The Christmas tree granny square follows the standard granny square, all we do is change colors in certain stitches to create our grid shape.

Yarn
Another thing to love about granny square is that you aren’t limited by yarn choices. True, we may have a preference but that doesn’t exclude other yarn choices. Whichever yarn blend or weight you chose, keep in mind that you will need two colors. For this tutorial I used a mix of brava and Wool of the Andes Yarn.
Brava is Crochet officials acrylic range, it’s soft and comes in a variety of weights and colors. While wool of the Andes is from the same yarn company, it’s their affordable wool range. My favorite color in this range is Cadet, but here in the tutorial I used Almond.
Pictured here, the yarn I’m using for the current christmas tree granny square project.

Can I make this?
We work the Christmas tree granny square in the round following the basic granny square pattern until we complete 4 rounds. You will note that in my chart and instructions I don’t chain 1 between the granny sts, but feel free to do so if you prefer this look. Round 3 of this granny square is the only one that uses the 2 colors.
In order to work with the 2 colors we carry the color we are not using behind the work.
