Inspiration & Design

I’m 100% sure that 2024 revived my love of making granny squares. We completed not one, not two, but 5 granny square projects. Two for christmas, two for fall and one for Valentines Day, this year I’m going to have to think up a summery one. But for now we have a flower inspired granny square which counts for spring.

I know, what am I even doing mentioning Spring when we are still in winter. Listen, I’m not trying to rush the seasons. I enjoy the slow and gentle pace of the colder months, those mornings spent bundled up in blankets wearing a sweatshirt that is 3 sizes too big… Getting side tracked here. The point is that if we don’t make it ahead of a season, we can’t wear it for the Season.

It’s always exciting to mix stitches together and make a granny square.

The Yarn

As with any ol granny square, the bloom granny square can be crocheted using any yarn weight, just bear in mind that the thinner the yarn, the smaller your rounds will be. For the video and picture tutorial I have used Lion Brand Lazy Days yarn, Even though this yarn is 100% polyester it’s made of a knit tube which makes it a very lightweight yarn perfect for garments. Because of the knit tube construction it also provides a wonderful stitch definition.

The different stitches used in this granny square make it a wonderful choice for color changing at the end of each rnd.

Can I make this?

Yes, you can. Especially because you will find a video tutorial here.

Full Description of Pattern

The Bloom Granny Square is crocheted in the round. We begin with a circle for the first two rounds and then we start squaring off in the third round.

You can also choose to leave out the last hdc round. In the picture below we see what the square looks like without the hdc round and crocheted with a fingering weight yarn and 3mm hook.
