The Pop heart motif is easy to make and adapt to your crochet needs. If you just wanted a sprinkling of heart magic, it would make a wonderful headband or bandana.

Inspiration & Design
The Vogue dictionary of crochet stitches has a whole section devoted to fillet crochet, and one of these designs is a heart motif fillet top. Alas, in true 1980’s crochet fashion, some of the instructions can leave one scratching their head. While I do want to go back and work out how their motif is constructed, I’m quite happy with how the pop heart motif came out. It’s open, but has texture to keep things interesting.
The Yarn
Because of the use of mesh stitches I would suggest using a yarn that isn’t’ too drapey if you want the stitches to be structured and show off the popcorn heart detail. For this tutorial I’ve used we crochet’s comfy worsted in white. They grey version is Hayfield dk a discontinued yarn that works up very similar to yarn art jeans ( 55/45 cotton acrylic blend sport weight)
Can I make this?
This skill level is easy+, you need to know how to make double crochet stitches, chains, and the popcorn stitch.
Full Description of Pattern
A Mesh stitch motif with a popcorn stitch heart in the middle. The square is worked up flat in 6 rows. The single pop heart square is worked with 14 chains. However for a longer repeat, you will need multiples of 13+3.

Row 6: [dc, ch1] x 2, dc, ch1, sk1, dc in ch space between popcorns, ch1, sk1, dc [ch1, dc] x 2

After completing Row 6, we can cut of yarn and fasten off.
If you would like to create a strip with your motif, the repeat would be rows 1 to 6. To separate the hearts more you could add more mesh rows in between. You could also work rows 1 to 6, then shift the hearts so in the next 6 rows you work a heart between the hearts.
