Join me for this fall inspired tutorial where I teach you how I made this acorn granny square version 1. I fondly call him chub acorn.

acorn granny square version 1

Last year, for Granny Square day, we crocheted the pumpkin granny square. Ever since releasing that pattern I’ve felt the urge to create more themed granny squares. Themed Granny squares are by no means a new invention, Raffamusa designs has been creating these beauties for a while, but I always think it’s fascinating how people can approach a design quite differently.

Yarn and construction

To make this acorn granny square version 1 we are going to need 3 colors, 2 for the acorn motif and then a border color for our granny rounds.

This square is divided into 3 parts. First, we crochet the acorn motif body. Then we add the cap, this completes the motif. After completing the motif we do a border round and then start our granny square rounds. I promise it’s simple. Bonus, you can just make the acorn motif and use it as part of a woodland garland.

How to crochet the Acorn Granny Square 1

Materials:

  • yarn in 3 colors – I used worsted weight cotton yarn (Sugar and Cream
  • hook to go with it – I used a 5mm Tulip Hook
