Welcome to the last installment of the granny crew sweater series, the granny crew neckline.

granny crew neckline

Here we are on the very last part of our sweater. Today we are going to be working our granny crew neckline. True to its name we are going to finish with a crew neck neckline. For this sweater I wanted to keep our finishing touches simple so after we pick up stitches with a single crochet we are going to start our front post back post rib.

Granny Crew Neckline

  • 4mm crochet hook, I’m using a Furls Crochet Hook
  • CC color for our single crochet round
  • Main color for the rib

If you have the time, yarn and inclination, I would suggest working some short rows at the back to ensure that your sweater has enough height for the neck back.

Start of the Granny Crew Neckline

Double check that your garment is right side facing (not inside out)

Round 1: With your 4mm crochet hook and contrasting yarn, attach yarn to the mid back, work sc in each st, once you reach the raw edge of the neckline, work 2sc around the double crochet posts and 1sc around the sc post, sl st to the first sc to close the round, change colors.

Note: For working a front post back post rib, make sure you have an even number of sts around. I like my necklines to be between 78 and 82 sts.

If you would like a deeper rib you can of course keep repeating round 3 until you reach a depth that you like. But for the pattern as written, I quite like the look of these two rib rows.

Weave in ends, wet block your garment and your granny crew sweater is complete!

Thank you so much for coming along on this granny crew sweater journey, I hope that you enjoyed making your sweater as much as I did. I’m thinking of doing a fingering weight version and properly grading it into a pattern.

But for now, you can share your makes with us on instagram @crochetcakes, on the youtube community thread, or on the crochetcakes and tea discord server under what we’re crafting!
