raglan Granny no7 is a summer friendly v neck top featuring a Raglan construction. In this part 1 we will be working up the yoke for our top.

Inspiration & Design
As with many of my patterns the raglan Granny No7 top was born out of curiosity. How would I go about making a raglan V-neck top with the Granny block stitch?
Curiously, the granny crew sweater was the result of me playing around with a v neck top and realizing that I had increased too quickly. Instead of getting a V neck I got a crew neck. From that tangent the Granny No 7 top took a backseat.
But we are ready now.
Yarn for the Raglan Granny No7 top
For this top we are using dk weight yarn with a 4.5mm crochet hook. I hear you, dk weight wool or wool blend yarns are not a top choice for summer-like garments. If you would like to branch out from dk weight wool, in this video I talk about some of my favorite summer yarns.
Also, don’t forget about our little yarn experiment with a previous raglan granny click here
As we discovered in the above video, comfy sport with a 4mm crochet hook is also a possible choice. Don’t forget about the adjustments that we discussed.
As always, play around with yarn combinations until you find one that works for you. When choosing yarns don’t forget to consider weather patterns in your area.
For example, the black version shown below is crocheted with a heavier dk cotton/acrylic yarn. For this one I used a 5mm hook. Since the yarn doesn’t have much drape I didn’t have to adjust much.

This version, is crocheted with a combination of swish pops (the white base with colorful speckles) and a 100% pima cotton yarn from tropical yarnie.

In the intro to the granny block stitch series we covered other yarn options as well.
Construction
We are working our granny no7 top using the raglan technique. We start by casting on the neckline and from there increase while forming a V neck. Once we reach the desired depth of the V-neck we join and continue working our yoke in the round. After a desired armhole depth is reached, we separate the yoke into sleeves and body.

NOTES on extending your raglan
Before attaching CC – This is a good moment to block your garment. Once dry, measure your armhole depth. Then, try on your raglan top.
If the garment is too close to the underarm, work more yoke rounds as follows
- (CC): * [ sc between the granny st, ch2 ] until you reach the marked st, scV in the marked st, ch2; rep from * until you’ve worked the last scV, ch2, sc between the grannies until you have 1 granny st left, ch2, sl st to the first st to join the round, switch to MC, ch1.
- MC: repeat round 15.
Remember if you need to add more increases so that the garment fits correctly you can do those as we separate for the sleeve. You could also add 2 more rounds to the yoke as follows
(CC): * [ sc between the granny st, ch2 ] until you reach the marked st, scV in the marked st, ch2; rep from * until you’ve worked the last scV, ch2, sc between the grannies until you have 1 granny st left, ch2, sl st to the first st to join the round, switch to MC, ch1.
MC: repeat round 15.
