Adding some main character energy to my wardrobe with this Spring V neck top

Spring V neck crochet top
I admit to having a preference for a round collar and a high neck, but I can appreciate a good V neck top as well. Enter my second version of the granny No7 top. This one is the perfect spring v neck top. You may be asking yourself, what makes it so different from the black and green version showcased in the tutorial? There are three key factors that make this top slightly different from the original.
Yarn
Firstly, the yarn. For this version I chose to combine a dk weight white speckled wool with a 100% pima cotton. Since the Pima has less body than the Merino wool, the combination produced a much lighter and drapier garment. This combination is honestly what makes it a perfect Spring V neck top. Ready for those Mid 70’s low 80’s outings.
The increases
While this yarn combo produced a gorgeous fabric, it also had a slightly smaller stitch and row gauge. Because of this difference in gauge I could have gotten away with adding 2 more rounds to the yoke before splitting for the sleeve. These added rounds would have made the armhole more comfortable. However, taking into account that cotton has no memory, I opted to simply add more ch’s at the underarm to get my desired width and arm movement.

In the next round I worked a dc in each of these chains, 6 dc in total. Then, in the third round of the body I treated these 6 dc’s as 2 granny sts and worked my sc between the granny sts as normal.

Adding extra ch’s at the underarm also means that we work our sleeves slightly different.
Sleeve
Sleeve round 1 – start with a sc between the 2 bottom granny sts, ch2 and work a sc in the sc , ch2 sc between the granny sts until you reach the next granny with a sc in the middle, ch2, sc in between sc and the first dc, ch2, sl st to the first sc to join.

Sleeve round 2 – worked 2 granny st decreases at the bottom of the armhole

Then work 1 repeat of the granny block stitch in the round. After completing this repeat I stayed working with the main color and did a sc, ch2 round.
Shell Border Spring V Neck Top
Sc in ch2, 6 dc in next space, repeated this around and sl st to the first sc to join in the round.
I think out of the two granny no7 tops this lighter more playful version is my favorite. Truly, a gorgeous spring v neck top.

For the shell border on the body of the top I fudged the count a little bit because I was 1 space short to make the shell stitch work but it’s at the back and I don’t mind it at all.
Let me know what is your perfect Spring top, and also how you would modify this crochet top to suit your needs.
