The Granny Crew Light Sweater is a crop sweater featuring a top down Raglan construction, bell sleeves, and short rows at the back of the neck.

Inspiration & Design
In December 2025 we crocheted the a similar pattern together. While completing the sweater I knew I didn’t have enough yarn for a full length sleeve. However, I still appreciated the way the ¾ sleeves flared out slightly. These sleeve considerations of course meant that I had to make another sweater. This time with enough yarn for long sleeves. Remembering how I liked the slight fare of the first sweater I thought, let’s go for bell sleeves.
Yarn for the granny crew light sweater
Considering the weight of full bell sleeves in crochet, using dk weight yarn didn’t seem ideal. Also, sleeves with a granny block stitch, yarn eater. With the weight of the sleeves at the forefront of my mind I decided to go with Mighty stitch fingering. Mighty stitch from wecrochet is a soft 80 acrylic / 20 wool yarn blend that comes in a variety of colors. Because of the high acrylic content this yarn drapes beautifully after steaming.
If you prefer a yarn with a higher natural fiber content, my lovely testers had great success with a 100% cotton yarn as well as a Suri Silk 1 ply.
I’m also crocheting a second version of this crop sweater with Lana Grossa Gomitolo Puno. This is a discontinued yarn with a very interesting blend of Cotton, Alpaca and Wool. Warm and with lovely drape from both the Alpaca and wool.

Can I make this bell sleeve crop sweater?
You sure can! Not only is the graded granny crew high version available to purchase via Ravelry, but there are many free resources right here on the blog to help you along your journey of crocheting this crop sweater with bell sleeves.
Things to know
Just like the first time the Granny Crew Light sweater is crocheted top down using the Raglan Technique. We start working our crew neckline then join in the round to complete our yoke. Once the yoke section is complete we divide our piece into two armhole openings and the body. From this division we continue with our body and sleeves separately.

Those bell sleeves…just wow! I am so in love….Will be trying this out as soon as I finish off some of my WIPs. ?
Thank you so much Maggie! I’m so excited you will be adding this to your que! What are some of your WIPs? I’m leaning heavily on finishing my second granny crew light sweater, and knitting some socks.
I have about 3 WIPs at the moment. One is your “Bobble in Time” crochet top which is in the assembly phase and the other two are of my own design. They still require some tweaking and probably some more frogging, but slow and steady wins the race, I suppose, or better yet, it’s not a race of any kind.
I am rather new at designing my own tops and appreciate immensely the work it takes designers like YOU to design and create patterns for others to follow. I am not at all at that level, but you inspire me greatly. So thanks for your vlogs and blogs. I enjoy the tea and cake sharing sessions while you crochet in such a gentle manner. It is quite soothing I might add.
I’m so honored to be on your WIP list! You are 100% correct designing and making should never be a race. Frogging is part of the designing process for sure. Revisiting finished items because you thought of a way to make them better is also 100% allowed. Thank you for sharing crafty moments with me. Truly lovely that you find inspiration in my work and that my vlogs provide you with soothing moments. That makes me so so so happy!
Abrazos!
Clarisabeth
Well, I will keep you posted on my progress then if that is alright with you!
