Crochet is your key to being whimsical in any season. Achieve peak coziness with my essential crochet home decor list.

Essential crochet home decor for any season
Creating a cozy home with crochet has been a goal for quite some time. In fact, sprinkled throughout my garment designs, you will find some home decor patterns. Though, being perfectly honest, some days the yarn seems to do most of the “decorating”. However, I do dream of blankets to cuddle up in, pillows to hug while I’m reading and curated handmade items that make a space feel truly welcoming.
If you are into following home decor accounts my home decor dreams are somewhere between flashesofstyle, thekwendyhome, and the Aunt’s house in practical magic. Yes, I’m also stumped as to how to combine these 3 styles. My whimsy, wars with my everything needs to be clutter free…
No matter my interior monologue, Crochet home decor is a great way to make a space ooze coziness. If you have yet to try crochet or other crafts, let this list inspire you to start.
Of course what we all consider essential can and will vary. Below you will find mine. As always, please feel free to share yours in the comments!
Essential Kitchen Decor

- Heat resistant items
- Pot holders / Oven mitts – These are must haves for any kitchen. Especially these pictured above. I have fallen in love with the thermal stitch for making these.
- In order to keep my crochet potholders year round, I simply crochet them in my favorite seasonal colors.
- If you want your crochet home decor to truly stand out, Raffamusa designs has some stunning colorwork pieces.
- Bowl Cozy – A must if you find yourself using the microwave often. Not only can they function as decor, but they also protect your fingers. Keep them simple or add an eye catching border and switch them out with the seasons
- Pot holders / Oven mitts – These are must haves for any kitchen. Especially these pictured above. I have fallen in love with the thermal stitch for making these.

- Windows
- Curtains – Years ago, Sandra shared her sunbeam squares and I fell in love with the idea. While I find the thought of crocheting an entire curtain a little daunting, a valance for extra decor seems more approachable.
- Garland/Bunting – instead of a valance you could add little seasonal touches by hanging a garland above your window.
You may be wondering why Windows fall under this essential crochet home decor list, but why not? If we are putting up curtains anyway, why not add some more character with crochet?
Living Spaces
Funny name isn’t it? But I felt it appropriate because our next home decor category is living room and bedroom. I tend to use the same type of decorations for both.
- Blankets – Trust me, I know that crocheting blankets is not for everybody. But they are a great way to refresh your style. Especially if you switch them out every season. For blankets I’m learning that I prefer a soft fabric so yarn choice can get a lil dicey. If your goal is just to decorate with them, you can also crochet up smaller samples to act as textural accents.
- Pillows Covers – I don’t have a lot of storage space in my home. So, when it comes to my essential crochet home decor, I prefer to crochet pillow covers. Easy to store and easy to switch out. Some great ideas for pillow covers so they are easy to change out
- Button closure
- Zipper
- Crochet front but sewn envelope back. I used this technique for the Christmas cushion and the Strawberry Patch cushion.
- Pillows – While I prefer pillow covers for their storage ease, I can’t deny how eye catching different pillow shapes are. Some faves are:

- Knick Knacks – This can be a very broad category but for the purposes of our essential crochet home decor – items that we use to add personal touches.
- Baskets – not only do they add personality but we can also hide things in them. There are honestly so many wonderful ones to choose from – here are just some shapes…
- Color Work Acorn basket
- Owl Basket – I made this one and love it. I would crochet it again using sturdy cotton yarn. Otherwise it only stands up when it’s completely full.
- Pumpkin Basket
- Baskets – not only do they add personality but we can also hide things in them. There are honestly so many wonderful ones to choose from – here are just some shapes…
For the Walls
Most of the walls in my home are bare. I’ve either found it difficult to commit to an art piece or we’ve encountered electrical wires… If only cookie cutter houses provided the blueprints for the actual wiring and plumbing…
Drilling issues aside, tapestry wall art is a great way to decorate your space. We have two crochet tapestries that mom has gifted us to remember Puerto Rico. These pieces are hanging in our living room and are real showstoppers.

Essential crochet home decor for the tables
I have learned that you can decorate any and every surface in your home. But when it comes to surfaces, I tend to keep my decor on the coffee table and the kitchen table.
- Coasters and Placemats – I used to hesitate on making these because I didn’t want them to get dirty! I have since learned that even in storage something can get dirty. Get your yarn and decorate! Coasters really work up quickly and are easy to swap out with the seasons.

- table runners – I tend to place my table runners on the coffee table, less chance of them getting dirty and the bulk of the decor doesn’t bother me.
I think I’ve barely scratched the surface with this essential crochet home decor list so please share some of your favorite items to craft for your home.
