Hello Fellow Crafters!
About one and a half months ago, I was very excitingly chatting to you guys about the wedding favors I was going to crochet. I was determined to make coasters using the sample stitch squares I was sharing with you guys. Mindset “how hard could it be to crochet 400 coasters?” Answer – “you are being overly optimistic!” While I had several lovely viewers of the podcast offer to help me crochet these guys, which was awesome, I was still not convinced this was a good idea because of the yarn I chose.
Hace más o menos mes y medio, estaba hablando con ustedes de los regalos de boda que iba a tejer. Estaba convencida de tejer unos porta vasos de los tutoriales de puntadas que estaba preparando para mi blog. En fin un regalo hecho a mano, sencillo y útil. En el mundo de mi mente esto iba a ser algo simple y sencillo pero la realidad fue otra. Aunque tuve varias personas ofrecer sus servicios tejeriles para dicha ocasión no estaba convencida que sería una buena, la culpa la tiene el hilo que escogí.
The colors I chose for the wedding are Sage Green, dusty blue and gold for the accents. In my opinion the perfect dusty blue is this one from Drops.
Not only is the yarn color spot on, but the stitch definition with it is lovely. The only downside is that it tends to be a bit splitty.
Los colores que escogí para la boda son salvia (sage green), un azul grisaseo y dorado para los accentos. Encontré el dusty blue perfecto en la colección Recycled Denim de Drops. El color me encanta y el hilo es excelente, las hebras se separan un poco pero la definición es excepcional.
I also found the perfect sage color.
While this sage color is spot on for what I wanted, it is not so in quality. This yarn is more of a crafty cotton and did not give good stitch definition. All in all the coasters made with this yarn (which was the color I most had available) looked very unprofessional and unappealing. In short not what I wanted to give out as wedding favors. This was highly discouraging and being short on time, I just decided to scrap the project all together.
Aunque el color de premiere home cotton era el salvia perfecto, la calidad del hilo no era la mejor. Este hilo es más bien lo que se conoce cómo algodón de cocina o craft cotton. La definición que mis puntos tenían con este hilo era bien pobre. Todos los portavasos que tejí con este hilo tenían una apariencia poro profesional y no se veían como algo delicado. En fin, no tenían la apariencia de un regalo para bodas. Tomando en cuenta que este era el hilo que más tenía, decidí eliminar el proyecto por completo.
Obviously I did not want just throw away all the coasters that I had already made with this yarn so I decided to sew the squares together and turn them into dishcloths, or washcloths.
I made this washcloth by joining 4 squares using single crochet and then doing a single crochet border all around. I chose to leave the sc seam exposed.
Después de haber hecho varios cuadrados, no quería dejarlos acumulando polvo en una esquina, así que decidí unirlos usando puntos bajos y convertirlos en toallitas de cocina.
It hit me that this was the perfect idea for all the scrap squares that I had laying around and most probably will have in the future. You can of course choose to save them all up and make a nice summer blanket for your bed, but we all now I do not have the patience for blankets, and I didn’t think these squares were of such high quality that I would want to have them displayed as pillows either.
Haciendo estas toallitas se me ocurrió que son el proyecto perfecto para todos los samples que me sobran al intentar puntadas nuevas. También, dependiendo del hilo que uses, puedes usar los cuadrados para hacer una colcha, manta, o cojín.
Then I went a bit wild looking up ideas for using up subpar cotton yarn and turning it into something pretty.
una vez me percaté de estas ideas, corrí a google a ver que otras cosas se pueden hacer con este tipo de algodón.
The tutorial shown here uses rope, but we can just substitute with cotton yarn.
Aunque en el video enseñan el proyecto utilizando cordón grueso, se pueden utilizar múltiples hebras de algodón para lograr el grosor.
2. If you own a loom, even a miniature one, you can weave with the cotton.
3. Modern Weaving –
I have included this as a separate item because of all the textures and shapes that people are experimenting with in these modern wall hangings. Google modern weaving and be inspired by all the textures and colors!
Separé el weaving moderno del tradicional pq las texturas y el uso de hilos de diferentes grosores hace de estos proyectos algo totalmente diferente!
I may have failed in my original intent of wedding favors, but all is not lost, crafting can take many different roads!
Tal vez no logré completar todos los portavasos o más bien tejerlos por el hilo, pero todo tiene un uso y el mundo de las manualidades es extenso!
