Hello again, In my last post I shared the first steps towards making the Vintage Echo Cardigan. This week, let’s continue our cardigan making journey.
The Design
The Vintage Echo Cardigan is a crochet cardigan inspired by a vintage top from either the late 80’s or early 90’s.
While I don’t consider the date of the top to be important to my happiness you might. For this I humbly apologize, I am not an authority on pret a porter.
Anyway, what makes this top special to me is all the quirky details. It boasts of contrasting fabric panels, gorgeous buttons and sheer sleeves. All of these details I have attempted to transfer to the Vintage Echo Cardigan.
As you can see, the Cardigan is crocheted using several stitches, the main ones being an interpretation of the blouse panel pieces.
The construction
In part 1 of the Vintage Echo Cardigan we made the 3 panels the main body; left front, right front , and the back panel.
In this part we will be seaming it all together and working up sleeves, cuffs, and collar.
Before we begin with the second part of the pattern, let’s review our materials.

Vintage Echo Cardigan
Materials:
- Hooks
- 3.75 mm
- 4.5 mm
- 3(4, 5, 6) 7(8, 9)skeins of LB Collection Cotton Bamboo.52/48 Cotton/Bamboo. 245 yards in 100g.
- 1 hank of laceweight wool yarn. 875 yds.
- Measuring tape, yarn needle, and scissors
- Ribbon, 7-8 ¾” buttons, sewing needle and thread.
Gauge:
Daisy stitch (3.75mm hook) 15 stitches x 7 rows
Faux Bobble (3.75mm hook) = 16 stitches x 10 rows.
Dc sleeves : 16 dc x 6 rows with a 4.5 mm

Notes:
The pattern is work in three panels.
Ch3 at the beg counts as a double crochet.
You can adjust for length before collar decreases begin. Of course this will affect the amount of yarn needed.
Stitches Used / Abbreviations
- Ch – chain
- Fdc – foundation double crochet

- BLO – back loop only
V-stitch – dc,ch1,dc in the same stitch.
Special stitches: multiples of 4+1
Lazy Daisy stitch:
R1: dc to end of row, ch3 turn.
R2: *sk1 stitch, v-stitch, sk1 stitch, dc in next;rep from * to end of row, a dc should be your last stitch, ch3 and turn.
R3: dc in same space as ch3, *dc in chain of v-stitch, v-stitch in dc; rep from * to end of row ending with 2dc in the last stitch, ch3 and turn.
R4: dc in each stitch, ch3 and turn.
Seaming:
Lay panels right sides together for seaming.
- Seam shoulders to back panel
- Seam sides to the back panel leaving 3 rows (approx 1”) of bottom back panel unworked and 8(8.5,9,9.5)10(10.5,11)” unworked at top. This forms our armhole opening.
Collar:
With right side facing; attach yarn to the first decrease stitch on the daisy panel.
R1(rs): 2sc in first space, continue working sc across the panels until you reach the first dec of the bobble panel, 2sc, ch1 and turn.
R2: sc to the end of the row, ch1 and turn
R3: sc to the end of the row, ch1 and turn.
R4: sl 2, ch1, 2dc in the BLO in the same stitch as your last sl st, dc/BLO in each stitch stopping 2 stitches from the end of the row, 2dc in BLO of next stitch, ch1 and turn.
R5: 2dc, dc to 1 stitch from the end of row, 2dc in last stitch, ch1 and turn.
R6 and 7: repeat row 5.
R8: 2sc, sc to 1 stitch from end of row, 2sc in last stitch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Sleeves Lace Weight yarn (make 2):
Rnd 1: Using your 4.5mm hook crochet 62(64,66,66,68)sc around the armhole. Sl st to the first stitch to join, ch1 and turn.
Rnd 2 to 9: dc to the end of the rnd, ch1 and turn.
Rnd 10: dc,dec,dc,dec, dc to 5 stitches from end of rnd, dec, dc, dec. sl st to join, ch1 and turn. 58(60,62,62,64)
Rnd 11: dc to end of the rnd, ch1 and turn.
Rnd 12: rep rnd 10. 54(56,58,58,60)
Rnd 13 and 14: dc to the end of the rnd. Ch1 and turn.
Rnd 15: repeat rnd 10. 50(52,54,54,56)
Rnd 16 to 28: dc to the end of the rnd, ch1 and turn. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew the cuff.
Cuff (make 2)
worked flat and then seamed.
3.75mm hook
Ch 30(30,34,34)38(38,42)starting from the second ch from hook
R1: sc in each stitch, ch1 and turn 29(29,33,33)37(37,41)
R2: sc *trb, 3sc; rep from * to end of row, ch3 and turn.
R3: dc to the end of row, ch1 and turn.
R4: *3sc, trb; rep from * , end with a sc in last stitch, ch3 and turn.
R5: dc to the end of row, ch1 and turn.
R6: repeat row 2.
Fold right sides facing (bobble side) so that raw edges meet. Seam
Sew cuff to sleeve with sleeve tail. Since we are gathering you will whip stitch approximately 2 sleeve stitches to 1 cuff stitch.
Border
3.75mm hook
Using the 65(81,89,97) 105(113,121)on the back panel and with
wrong side facing, attach yarn 4 stitches to the left on the back panel edge.
R1: sc (in the same stitch you attached to), trb, 3sc, trb stop when 4 stitches remain, sl st in next stitch (does not count as a stitch), ch1 and turn. 58(74,82,90) 98(106,114)
R2: sk1, dc to 2 stitches before end of row, dec, ch1 and turn. 56(72,80,88) 96(104,112)
R3: sk 1, trb, 3sc,trb repeat from to until 2 stitches remain, sc in next stitch,leave last stitch unworked ch1 and turn. 54(70,78,86) 94(102, 110)
R4: repeat row 2. Fasten off. 52(68,76,84) 92(100,108)
Next, attach yarn to the beg of front bobble panel. Sc to back panel, sl st in panel join and continue with sc in each stitch/row until you have completed back panel and reached Daisy panel join. Sl st in join, sc to end of row.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Steam block your finished Cardigan.
Optional Buttons:
- Cut a piece of ribbon ½ longer than your left panel. Pin on the inside as close as possible to the border. Fold ¼” at the top and bottom of the ribbon. Tack down.
